At the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility, the Sentence Administrator reports to the Manager, Sentence Administration. The Sentence Administrator is responsible for the documentation of all admissions, releases, court appearances, transfers to other provincial and federal facilities, and fines within the facility. The Sentence Administrator also inputs and keeps current all information relating to offenders in the Justice Enterprise Information Network (JEIN). This includes loss of remission, levels of misconduct, temporary absences, custody terms and interpreting warrants and other court orders. The incumbent calculates sentences for offenders, using practices outlined in policy and procedures. The Sentence Administrator maintains regular communication with Admission and Discharge staff, Justice Centre and Sheriff Services staff and facility management to ensure all parties are aware of potentially high risk situations; performs information searches and prepares reports as necessary.
Grade 12 plus 5 years related experience in criminal justice field, preferably in Corrections or Court Services, policing or work in a law office. Also considered will be experience in accounting and research and analysis. Must be proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software. Experience in Justice Enterprise Information Network (JEIN) would be a strong asset. This position, at times experiences frequent interruptions and is responsible for a high volume of work, multiple demands and priorities. During the interview, the candidate must demonstrate that they possess the self-motivation, initiative and organization skills required to effectively handle multiple tasks and the high volume workloads. We will also be looking for well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team. The successful candidate must demonstrate sound judgement and possess an aptitude to pay close attention to detail. Must be able to show solid respect and the ability to work with highly confidential records and information.
Pay Grade: ACC 02
Salary Range: $1,630.61 - $1,914.95 Bi-Weekly
This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union.
